GRAB A BITE
Food vendors right on the Civic Theatre concourse.* Beginning at 5:00pm on evenings or 12:00pm on Sundays, visit our food vendors La Creperie and Red Brick Oven Pizza for a quick and easy bite. Our outdoor café has heaters and several belly-up tables for your convenience.
- La Creperie featuring sweet and savory crepes like the Pacific Catch, Vegetarian Knock-Out, Summer Blush or Nutella Crepe.
- Red Oven Pizza features many various pizza options (gluten free available) and lasagnas.
- The Baked Bear Features several kinds of giant ice cream sandwiches. *Only at the Friday, and Sunday performances of The Pirates of Penzance.
FREE BACKSTAGE TOURS
Discover how the magic of opera is created! San Diego Opera Docents and Staff guide you backstage at the Civic Theatre where you will see the pre-performance bustle first-hand. You’ll see the amazing scenery and costumes, and observe the highly skilled backstage crew who work to bring you an opera production. .
Backstage tours are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis to ticketed patrons, however capacity is limited.
Tours start at 5:30pm for the 7:00 performance and 12:30pm for the matinee performance and leave every five minutes. There are typically 3-4 tours per performance and each tour is approximately 15 minutes and allows patrons to attend the pre-opera lecture.
Meet at the Artist Entrance on the West side of the theatre.
The Backstage Tour enters part of the theatre that are “non-common” and “non-public” areas. There are steep stairs, uneven surfaces and therefore are not easily accessible for those with limited mobility. We recommend flat shoes. Call (619) 533-7000 for more information.
