San Diego Opera Public Health Update – March 16, 2020

With the evolving nature of the novel coronavirus situation, San Diego Opera continues to follow guidelines from government agencies and our public health partners. The safety and well-being of our patrons, artists, staff, and volunteers remain our highest priority. San Diego Opera is closely monitoring the County of San Diego Coronavirus page for current information on the situation and the Company remains compliant with state and federal guidelines and suggestions.

San Diego Opera is aware of the new recommendations from the CDC to postpone or cancel all public events with more than 50 participants for the next eight weeks which was issued on Sunday, March 15, 2020. San Diego Opera remains open and we are busy preparing for our next opera, The Barber of Seville, which opens April 25, 2020. We are aware that this date falls within the eight week window and we are monitoring the situation and reviewing our options.

Recent developments include:
  • We created a Purchase with Confidence plan, effective immediately. If you purchase tickets to San Diego Opera and are unable to attend, rest assured that we will work with you to exchange for a future performance. You can read more about this on our website.
  • We have been in contact with every artist in The Barber of Seville to confirm their health and well-being. All of our artists are currently in the United States with no future international travel planned before their arrival to San Diego. They are healthy and excited to sing for you.
  • The Company implemented its business continuity plan today with employees working remotely and other personnel working in staggered shifts in the office, maintaining social distancing practices as outlined by the CDC. Office business and staff meetings continue unhindered using telecommuting tools. We are here for you and our Patron Services Department is still open and staffed for your phone calls Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM and can be reached at (619) 533-7000 or at tickets@sdopera.org.

The following Taste of Opera events have also been cancelled:
  • The Barber of Seville: Opera and Cinema. April 7, 2020. Ticket holders are being contacted directly by the Company.
  • The Voice as an Instrument: How Does it Work. April 16, 2020. Ticket holders are being contacted directly by the Company.

As previously mentioned in the last San Diego Opera Public Health Update, the Company has cancelled all events through March 31, 2020.

Your health and well-being is important to us. We will continue to post regular updates on our website, social media channels, and to communicate via email. If you have questions of your own, our main office can be reached at (619) 232-7636 or by email at info@sdopera.org
