Volunteer at San Diego Opera
Become an Opera Ambassador or onstage volunteer! We welcome opera lovers who wish to support San Diego Opera with their time and talent. Your dedication makes possible great opera in San Diego!
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
- Ushering and greeting at Student Night at the Opera
- Greeting on the San Diego Civic Theatre Concourse at performances
- Assisting at Learning and Engagement events and seminars, special events, such as the annual Opera Ball for All, and other community events
- Audio describing at performances for visually-impaired patrons
- Administrative and office assistance
- Onstage supernumeraries (extras) and technical rehearsal light-walkers

How to Volunteer:
Complete and submit the online Volunteer Profile Form, download, print, and complete the Volunteer Profile Form, then scan or take a photograph of it and email it to ambassadors@sdopera.org, or print, complete and mail it to:

If you are interested in becoming a supernumerary or light-walker, please call the Super Hotline at 619-533-7073 and leave a message with your name, address, email address, and phone number (and age if you are under 18) or email our Super Captain at SuperCaptain@sdopera.org. Let us know if you have any physical, circus-type, or other special skills. Supernumerary information packets will be mailed.
Please note:
- Most shifts are approximately 3 hours in length
- You are responsible for covering your transportation and parking costs
- Many assignments are in the evening
- Most Event Ambassadors require good mobility
- Most Ambassadors’ communication is carried out by email
