Important new opera in a stunning production directed and designed by the all-Mexican team of Lorena Maza-director, Jorge Ballina-scenic designer, Eloise Kazan-costume designer, Victor Zapatero.-lighting designer. The opera explores the relationship between great Mexican visionaries Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera. You’ll be transported to the colorful celebration of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). The explosion of color on the stage along with evocation of Mexican art will entrance you. The production transports the audience from life to the afterlife and explores the thin veil between the two.

Scenery, designed by Robert Dahlstrom is traditional – directed by Michael Cavanagh. In 2004, it was updated to fit a 1930’s setting directed by Linda Brovsky. Both versions are available.

This Kyle Lang directed pair has been designed by Tim Wallace to perform in rep with Suor Angelica being the first act, followed by Gianni Schicchi. Ingrid Helton designed the costumes for Gianni Schicchi set in the 1950’s.
